Ethical Hacking Census 2023 Uruguay
The Censo de Población, Hogares y Viviendas, conducted by the Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas (INE), is the main tool for determining the number of inhabitants, households, and dwellings in Uruguay, as well as for collecting statistical information on living conditions, sociocultural levels, and the population’s needs.
Necessity
The project required ensuring the integrity and security of web applications and web services associated with the 2023 National Census, including custom applications and platforms deployed in PHP, Java, Wordpress and LimeSurvey. It sought to identify vulnerabilities that could compromise the confidentiality, availability or integrity of census information.
Solution
A Pentesting/Ethical Hacking with gray box approach, which included:
- Execution of vulnerability analysis on systems and domains in scope.
- Planning and execution of gray box intrusion tests on web applications and associated services.
- Delivery of a detailed report with findings, risks and recommended corrective actions.
Results
The project allowed the INE to strengthen security and ensure the resilience of critical applications associated with the 2023 Census. All service details and results are kept confidential.
